    Greek Honors Night FAQs

Still not sure if your chapter should apply for Greek Honors Night Awards this year?
Hopefully this will answer all of your Greek Honors Night questions & more!

If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact:
Danny Jonas (Advisor for Greek Life) jonasw@missouri.edu

When is the application packet due and where do I submit them?
Applications are due on Wednesday, March 4th by 5:00pm.
They must be submitted online by email to umcgreeklife@missouri.edu!

Where can I find a copy of the application packet?

Greek Awards are “going green” this year! You can find a copy of the application packet on the Greek life website: www.mugreeklife.com under “Events and Programs: Greek Honors Night” Feel free to print your own copy off, or save paper yourself and do everything online!

Why do we have Greek Awards?

All of the chapters in our councils do amazing things on a day-to-day basis for their national organizations, and for the Greek, Mizzou, and Columbia communities. Unfortunately, most of us are not getting the positive recognition we deserve.

Why should I apply for these awards anyways?

By applying for these Greek awards your chapter can show off all the wonderful things you have been doing for the past year, and finally receive some well-deserved recognition.

Do we have to apply for all of the awards?

No! We encourage you to apply for any or all awards. If your time or resources are limited, consider taking a good look at your chapter’s accomplishments from the past year and applying for the awards that best suits your chapter’s achievements!

Does my president have to fill out the applications?

No! While it is good to collaborate with your chapter leaders to make sure you aren’t missing anything important, it is not necessary for them to fill out the applications. Many chapters elect or appoint members to be responsible for applying for Greek awards each year! The more people helping out, the easier it will be on your chapter.

    When is the awards banquet?

The awards banquet will be held on April 27th
in Stotler Lounge of Memorial Union.

Can we nominate people and apply for individual awards only?

Absolutely. Again, we encourage you to apply for any and all awards, but as a chapter you can write award nominations for members that you believe exemplify the characteristics we seek for the individual award. Remember a representative for the chapter needs to write the application, not the nominee!

Who finds out if I win a Greek Honors Night Award?

Award recipients are presented with plaques, cups, and certificates to show off their awards. Local media outlets such as the Missourian and Maneater are also informed of the award winners. This year we will also be notifying your national organizations to inform them of the great honor your chapter has received.

Who represents our chapter at the Awards banquet?

All chapter presidents are invited to represent their respective chapters at the Awards banquet. Chapters are also allowed to invite up to four members to attend the banquet as well. Faculty and Chapter advisors are also invited to the banquet.

    Who is judging our applications?

MU faculty and staff members are selected to judge the Greek Awards. Judges review applications and maintain an objective opinion when scoring the applications.

What do the judges look for in my application?

Judges look for applications to be as detailed as possible, as they may have little knowledge of activities we participate in as Greek chapters. Be sure to include any new and innovative programs or projects your chapter has implemented in the last year. Helpful Hint: Sit down before you begin writing the application to outline specific programs and projects.

Can I submit supporting documentation electronically?

Yes, supporting documentation must be submitted electronically too. Be sure to scan all photos, newspaper clippings, or documents you wish to submit. You may also include links to specific articles or national websites.

    Which councils win these awards?

All four councils participate in Greek Honors Night. IFC, MGC, NPHC, and PHA all have the ability to win awards!
